Prime Minister Meles is not unaware of why or how foreign journalists embed insurgent groups; during his days of insurgency he has used a few of them to sell a hoax to the international community. What goes around comes around. He did it to Derg and understands how effective the tactic could be to turn the tide in favor of a 'cause'. Read reposts below. Ed.
"...Mr. Meles also has other plans [or in his parlance, Plan B]. He is using the Swedes to show the world the rule of law exists in Ethiopia. Here is the fact. The two Swedes are going to be set free sooner than later. Mr. Meles has shown the world he is the boss [a very vindictive stance and unstatesmanlike] and would now want to appear magnanimous. He would make you believe the court system is playing itself out and then he will jump in to pronounce a pardon! And every Ethiopian alive knows he is behind all this from start to finish. There is a saying in Ethiopia that goes like this, A whip cries even as it digs into the skin. First, he humiliates his victims and later uses their pain to aggrandize himself. Of course, we should not forget Meles is out to settle score with Sweden for pressuring him in 2010 to release pro-democracy leader Birtukan Mideksa. His response then was strikingly bizarre in that he threatened to close Ethiopian embassy! Read complete post here here.
